New head of the Digital Transformation Office announced

The Digital Transformation Office has a new CEO, Paul Shetler.  He’s worked at the UK’s Government Digital Service and was Chief Digital Officer at the UK Ministry of Justice.

The DTO was established to work on a whole-of-government digital service delivery system

“My goal is for Australia to become the country that shows the rest of the world how to deliver superb public services – across all channels – that are designed around the needs of users first and foremost,” says Shetler on the DTO website.

There’s an interesting article by Tom Burton about the potential problems facing Shetler in his task, including resistance from the agencies, the lack of experience of Federal government in service delivery to real people, and the tensions between the Communications Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, who is championing the DTO and its mandate, and the Prime Minister, who has shown little interest in digital transformation.
