The government has announced the development of a $20 million interactive education portal, which will be launched in the second half of next year, designed to exploit the high bandwidth supplied by the NBN.

A primary aspect of the portal is that it will provide access to the ABC’s digitized database of content, which students can use to watch, listen, read, remix, tag and recommend.  The content will be directly linked with new curriculum content.  The portal will include online tutorials, self-directed interactive learning activities, reading material and quizzes.  It will also include 3D immersive environments.

The portal, which will be free and public, is being developed by the ABC in collaboration with Education Services Australia (ESA).
