Virgin and Qantas have announced plans to allow wi-fi-based inflight Internet access.

Virgin’s system will be called BoardConnect and will stream entertainment content to personal media devices like laptops to passengers in both first and economy class.  It’s not know if it includes tablets and mobile phones.  It will be rolled out mid next year.

Qantas will also trial inflight Internet access starting from February next year.  It will be available for passengers in first or business class for use on smartphones, laptops or tablets.
