Australia gets Google Street View

Australia is only the third country in the world to get Google Street View, which shows close-up photos of homes, businesses and landmarks in Australian cities and towns, accessible through Google Maps Australia.

For six months, Google has been taking more than 10 million photos across Australia using cars mounted with roof-top cameras.

Street View provides 360-degree street-level images and can be used for driving directions, mapping neighbourhoods, checking locations, looking at a prospective new home.  All faces and registration numbers have been blurred.  The website has raised issues of privacy here in Australia and in the other countries it has been launched.  The website has an option that allows people to request images be taken down.
