New citizen journalism project launched in Australia

04 September, 2007

The Creative Industries Faculty at QUT has joined with SBS, On Line Opinion and the Brisbane Institute to launch a major national research project on the emerging phenomenon of citizen journalism, where ordinary people produce their own news coverage.

The first initiative of the project is youdecide2007, a website which will provide a platform for ordinary Australians to report on the election from their own local perspective.  As it grows the site will offer a grassroots, electorate-by-electorate coverage of the 2007 Australian Federal Election, including both news and opinion content.

"Anchor" citizen journalists will be sought for key seats, but content will be welcome from the widest possible base of supporters.  Training and advice will be provided, to help get a broad base of individuals involved in contributing content and the editorial process.
