Yahoo and Microsoft sign blogging pact in China29 August, 2007

Technology giants Yahoo and Microsoft, along with other blog providers, have agreed to a code of conduct for their blogging operations in China, which commits them to protecting the interests of the Chinese state.
In the "self-discipline" pact, the companies pledged to "safeguard the state and public interests". This includes encouraging users to register real names and addresses and other personal details of bloggers and keeping this information, and deleting any "illegal or bad messages", which include content spreading democracy or critical of China’s rulers.
