Hacktivists attack UN website

14 August, 2007
By Allison Orr

"Hacktivists" have attacked the United Nations website and replaced speeches of Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon with anti-war messages, including "Ysrail and Usa dont kill children and other people", "peace for ever" and "no war", as well as calling their own actions a "cyberprotest".   It is not known who the hackers were, apart from the signature left on the site: "Hacked By kerem125 M0sted and Gsy".

The website was fixed up quickly, but screen shots of the cyberattack can be seen at Hackademix.

According to security bloggers, the UN website had some security vulnerabilities that were quite easily overcome, and  the situation has only been patched.
