Barack Obama takes control of MySpace page16 May, 2007

Several years ago, an Obama supporter, Joe Anthony, set up a MySpace page for supporters of the politician, which went on to generate 160,000 “friends”. Originally the Obama campaign team worked with Anthony on content for the increasingly popular site, but later became concerned over an outsider having control of the site.
Anthony was reluctant to hand over control of the site when asked, and MySpace stepped in to settle the dispute. The deal struck gave the Obama campaign team control over the site, but gave Anthony the right to take all the friends who signed up to the site while he was in control.
The Obama campaign is now rebuilding its network from scratch.
