Australian online activists GetUp have married the YouTube make-your-own movie craze with MoveOn’s strategy of showing advertisements online to raise the funds to run them offline to come up with Ozin30seconds. Ozin30seconds is a competition to make a political advertisement. 10 finalists will be chosen, by popular vote, a la Australian Idol, but then the “celebrity” judges will choose one from the final ten to be broadcast on national TV.

The competition closes on the 30th June. The site is open for business now with tools, resources and discussion forums to help someone craft the perfect political ad.
