Special Minister of State, Gary Naim has announced the Australian Bureau of Statistics the winner of the e-Award for Excellence in e-Government for its eCensus in 2006.  The award, which recognises excellence in the use of information and communications technology at all levels of government, was awarded to the ABS for its eCensus in 2006.

The eCensus website offered Australian citizens the option to fill in their census forms online for the first time.  This made collection of information easier, especially in remote and rural areas.

“These awards represent the best of ICT innovation and what can be achieved towards the realisation of not only e government, but the many benefits of a switched on, connected and inclusive online community,” said Mr Nairn.
